Not-so-good for Naomi Novik still means worlds above many other authors, after all.įirst sentence: The real story isn’t half as pretty as the one you’ve heard. It wasn’t as amazing as Uprooted and there were some problems for me that could easily have been fixed, but it was still a great book overall. While not an actual sequel, Spinning Silver is the spiritual successor to that book and so had quite a lot to live up to.

Like many other readers, I adored Naomi Novik’s first foray into fairy tale territory in the shape of her novel Uprooted.
